Alex Fuhrmann
Weymouth Town Council - Westham East
Once described by my teacher as “never going anywhere,” I’ve spent much of my adult life abroad, taking opportunities and fostering a love of the wider world. Through my passion of sport and travel, I have had the privilege to live in Sierra Leone, Arizona and also had stints studying and working across the United States where I met my beautiful wife.
Having settled back in Weymouth long term to have our family, I worked in film production and the music industry, finally becoming a primary school teacher in Westham and proud supporter of local sport. I spent many years developing Weymouth Basketball Club and more recently spearheaded the formation of the Dorset Basketball Association (serving as chair), providing local and county level competition for senior and junior age groups.
I always wanted to run for local office and represent my community in a positive way. After years of watching (predominantly) retired, out of touch cllrs make decisions about our areas, I felt an urge to change the way in which the role of councillor could be fulfilled. In my role, I make efforts to fully engage with my community using positive initiatives. I also strive to develop a team ethos across all parties and personalities in the chamber, much for the betterment of all residents.
Nothing is plain sailing when you are engulfed by the vocation of serving your community, but I do my best whilst also having a young family and a professional work life. To quote David Brent in the office; If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain.
