David Northam
Weymouth Town Council - Wey Valley
I have lived in Weymouth since 1977 where I have worked as a teacher, engineer and business manager. I am married to Christine and have 2 children, now adults, who both went to school in Weymouth. I am a keen walker, birdwatcher and enjoy sports.
I retired in 2019 and chose to run for Weymouth Town Council because I wanted to give Weymouth a stronger voice. Currently I am focusing on the Weymouth Neighbourhood plan as chair of the steering group. It has 4 councillors and 7 residents. This plan will provide a loud voice for residents to make Weymouth fit for future generations.
I also helped get the Tumbledown project up and running. Tumbledown provides outdoor activities for many of our most vulnerable people through growing, harvesting and cooking produce for food and, in the process, learning social and life skills.
I serve on the Planning and Licensing Committee as well as the Human Resources Committee.
Weymouth is a wonderful place to live with good people, great climate, nature on the doorstep and a rich history. But like many sea-side towns the sunshine hides real problems with lack of job opportunity and access to affordable homes and social housing. I want to help make Weymouth a better place for all, especially the young.
